Earn 45,000 bonus SkyMiles for the Gold Delta SkyMiles credit card (personal card)
Until December 19, 2011, you’ll earn 45,000 bonus SkyMiles when you spend $3,000 within the first 3 months of opening a new Gold Delta SkyMiles credit card when you apply through www.deltaamexlimitedtimeoffer.com.

This is the same offer that was also available for a limited time about a year ago. It represents a significantly larger bonus–while requiring significantly more spend–over the standard offer available now (30,000 bonus miles after spending $500 within 3 months).

Earn 55,000 bonus SkyMiles for the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card from Amex
There’s also an even richer deal available for the business version of the card. Under this offer, you’ll earn 25,000 bonus SkyMiles after your first purchase and another 30,000 bonus SkyMiles after you spend $10,000 within 6 months of opening your account for a total of 55,000 bonus miles.

Link

Both cards carry an annual fee of $95, which is waived for the first year.

While the deal for the personal card has a certain expiration date, it’s unclear how long the offer for the small business card will last.

Thanks to reader Dave for the tips on these offers.

Check in at a merchant with a Special… load the Special to your card, and then pay for your over $10 purchase with your American Express ® Card. No need to show your phone to a cashier or anything – you’ll receive the credit on your Amex statement within 5 business days.

If you don’t already have the foursquare app on your phone, the easiest way to take advantage of this offer is to follow these steps:

Sign up for foursquare online and download the app here.

Then, you can sync your Amex with foursquare at sync.americanexpress.com/foursquare/

What does this mean? On Saturday, November 26, 2011 (the day after Black Friday), you can receive a one-time $25 statement credit when you use an eligible American Express card to make a purchase of at least $25 at a small business. To participate in this promo, you must enroll your card first at this link. The number of cards that can be registered for this promo is limited, so you’ll want to register ASAP.

There is also a limit of one statement credit per registered card, regardless of the number of transactions you make with the card. However, if you have multiple authorized users on a card, each authorized user should be able to register separately and earn a credit. Statement credits should be issued within 5 business days after your qualifying purchase but may take up to 2 billing cycles to post.

To find participating small businesses in your area, you can visit the Small Business Saturday Facebook page and click “See where you can shop to earn your $25 statement credit.”

You’ll earn 10,000 bonus Starpoints after your first purchase and another 20,000 bonus Starpoints after spending at least $4,500 in your first 3 months of cardmembership. In addition, the annual fee of $65 will be waived for the first year.

Even without its generous signup bonus, however, the SPG Amex is one of my favorite travel credit cards. What makes it so great? Read this detailed SPG Amex review explaining why I love the card (as well as why the card isn’t for everyone).

Note: As of August 22, 2011, this 30k bonus Starpoints offer has expired.

American Express is embracing social media with both arms. In addition to its recently revealed partnership with FourSquare, Amex is now rolling out a new Facebook application that promises to offer cardmembers deals based upon their profile information.

Anticipated to be a competitor to daily deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial, one advantage to Amex’s new application is that consumers will not need to pay anything upfront in order to get in on the deals. Instead, cardmembers can sign up by enabling the “Link, Like, Love” app from American Express’s facebook page and linking their American Express credit card to the program. When cardmembers then access the app, they’ll be connected to a personalized dashboard containing deals, content and experiences based on both their own Facebook likes and interests, as well as those of their friends. Cardmembers can then select the deals that interest them. As consumers shop online or in stores, American Express will send statement credits to cardmembers’ accounts without the need to pre-purchase anything, print out or show a coupon at the point of sale. Amex says credits should appear within three to five days after purchase, but may take up to two billing cycles to post.

For example, if a cardmember “likes” Whole Foods Market on Facebook or has “checked in” on Facebook Places, she may see a Whole Foods Market deal in her dashboard. If her friend has the Fox television show “Glee” as one of her interests on Facebook, she may see an exclusive experience for Glee the 3D Concert Movie on her dashboard. Cardmembers can share deals with friends, choose the deals they want and then use their card as they usually do to claim the offer.

Some of the deals currently available include:

$5 credit for a $20 purchase at Whole Foods Market

$25 credit for $100 purchase at Lord and Taylor

$10 credit for a $75 purchase at H&M

$10 credit off $25 at Outback Steakhouse

Other national merchants and partners include: 20th Century Fox, Dunkin’ Donuts, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Virgin America, Bonefish Grill, H&M, Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine, Westin Hotels & Resorts, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Celebrity Cruises, Lenovo, Sports Authority, 1-800-FLOWERS, and Travelocity.

Amex and social networking site Foursquare recently announced a partnership to offer their users special discounts at selected merchants. Under this system, Foursquare users with an American Express account can sync their accounts together and then receive “check-in” discounts without the need to print or clip a coupon.

For those unfamiliar with Foursquare, a “check-in” is when you tell Foursquare that you are at a particular location, such as a restaurant, store, airport, etc. This information is then broadcast to your friends. In this case, if you’ve also synced your Amex with your Foursquare account, it will also let you know if the merchant is offering a special discount.

To participate in this program, the basic process is this:

Register your card at this site to link your American Express card to Foursquare.

“Check in” via Foursquare when you get to a restaurant, shop, etc. If there is an Amex special at the merchant, select the promo through Foursquare.

Make your purchase as normal with your American Express card. Your discount should be credited in a future statement.

Note that you will need a smartphone or mobile device with Foursquare in order to take advantage of this program.

American Express has announced 3 initial nationwide deals as part of this program: $20 back for a $50 purchase at Sports Authority, $10 back for spending $75 at H&M, and $15 back for spending $100 at restaurants in the Union Square Hospitality Group.

What makes this deal potentially hotter is that since there are no coupons involved in the transaction, you should be able to stack real, paper coupons on top for additional savings.

For more info or to register your accounts, see americanexpress.com/foursquare.

Amex appears to be in the midst of revamping its Blue Cash card, removing the older version from its website and replacing it with two brand new Blue Cash credit cards, the Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred.

The new Blue Cash Everyday card has no annual fee and no minimum spending requirements. It earns a 3% rebate at supermarkets, 2% at gas stations and department stores and 1% everywhere else.

The Blue Cash Preferred, on the other hand, has a $75 annual fee and earns a 6% rebate at supermarkets, 3% at gas stations and department stores and 1% everywhere else.

Rebates are earned in the form of Reward Dollars, which may be redeemed for statement credits, or additional items like merchandise and gift cards, whenever your available Reward Dollar balance is 25 or more.

The big difference between the new generation and the previous generation of the card, apart from the category changes, is that Amex has removed the tiered rebate structure. Whereas the old Blue Cash required annual spend of at least $6500 before you started earning 5% at gas stations, grocery stores and supermarkets and 1.25% everywhere else, the new versions have no such tiers. That means that from your first dollar in spend, you’ll earn 6% at supermarkets with the Preferred card (3% for the Everyday card), thus making it a more attractive option for lower or more moderate spenders.

Based on the experiences of many people, American Express will credit you $7.05 regardless of how many songs or apps you purchase. So even if you make just a single purchase for 99 cents, your account will be credited for $7.05. Also, people are reporting that you can register additional cards even if they are on the same account, as long as the card numbers are different. Only one statement credit per registered account, regardless of the number of transactions made, however, will be issued.

As a reminder, you must register your card and make a purchase on iTunes between February 10, 2011 and March 15, 2011 to be eligible for this promotion. Most American Express consumer and busines credit cards should be eligible. You can register at this link.

Delta Air Lines just announced it will waive its fee on the first piece of checked luggage for Delta American Express cardholders beginning June 1, 2010. This benefit extends to cardmembers with an Amex Gold, Platinum or Delta Reserve SkyMiles credit card.

Delta will waive the $25 checked baggage fee on the first piece of checked luggage for up to nine people on the same reservation, but is not applicable to oversized or overweight bags. As Delta points out, that equates to savings of up to $50 on a round-trip ticket or $200 for a family of four. Cardholders will automatically receive the baggage fee waiver at Delta upon check-in for all Delta and Delta Connection flights.

Late last year, Pentagon Federal introduced its Premium Travel Rewards Amex. At the time it appeared most noteworthy because it made PenFed the first credit union to issue an Amex-branded credit card. Upon closer inspection, however, it appears that the credit card merits some serious attention, particularly for those who fly a lot.

Big Signup Bonus
Deal hounds will immediately appreciate the card’s generous signup bonus. It offers 20,000 bonus points when you spend $650 within the first 3 months, enough for a roundtrip airfare ticket or a $200 gift card. But, digging deeper, we see that the card is not just another churning opportunity.

Huge Rebate on Airfare Purchases
The Premium Travel Rewards Amex may seem automatically good for frequent fliers since it earns 5 points for each dollar of spending on airfare purchases, but the news is even better than that. While points can be redeemed for merchandise such as gift cards at a rate of 1 cent per point (10,000 points = $100 gift card), the rewards program really shines when it comes to redeeming points for flight purchases.

The terms and conditions of the program are decidedly confusing, with two different charts listed for airline travel redemption listed on the same page. I talked to a CSR who stated that different accounts might have different terms, though she did quote me the following redemption schedule:

Ticket cost $250: 15,625 Points
Ticket cost $350: 21,875 Points
Ticket cost $500: 31,250 Points
Ticket cost $750: 46,875 Points
Ticket cost $1,000: 62,500 Points

At those rates, each point would be worth 1.6 cents when redeemed for airfare. So, since airfare purchases earn 5 points per dollar spent, for each dollar spent on airfare, you would be earning 8 cents towards an airline ticket.

Other Perks
In addition, there are many other bonuses of this credit card that frequent travelers will enjoy. Among them:

No foreign transaction fees. PenFed remains one of very few issuers to waive fees for transactions made in foreign currencies.

Until December 31, 2010, dining and hotel purchases will also earn 3 points per dollar spent.

Complimentary access to airport lounges around the world with membership to Priority Pass, with 2 free passes per year when spending reaches $15,000 annually.

And while it’s far from the main attraction of the card, the Premium Travel Rewards Amex also has reasonable balance transfer fees. For instance, online balance transfers are at the promo rate of 4.99% for 24 months, with fees waived if performed by June 30, 2010. After June 30, the normal fee of 2.5% (min $10, max $100) applies.

Membership has its privileges
PenFed membership is required to apply, but basically anyone is eligible. If you are not automatically eligible through various military affiliated organizations or the Red Cross, you can always become eligible by joining the NMFA with a small, one-time fee.

The card does carry a $50 annual fee, which is waived for the first year. To read the fine print or to apply, see this link.

Long known for its line of charge cards, American Express recently unveiled a new charge product targeted towards the younger generation. The Amex Zync is being pitched as a way to build your credit history without the danger of running up high interest charges, since it must be paid in full every month. As a charge card, any balances you carry on your Zync will not count towards your utilization ratios on either your FICO or Vantage Score.

The Zync does carry an annual fee, though at $25, it is much lower than its elder siblings. Purchases earn Membership Rewards points which can be redeemed for the usual assortment of travel, shopping, and entertainment rewards. In addition, there are four “Lifestyle Packs,” that can boost your benefits. For instance, the “Go” pack costs an additional $20/year and doubles the number of points your airfare purchases earn. The “Social” pack also costs another $20/year and doubles your points on restaurant, concert and theater purchases.

For more details, see this link.
