Chase just introduced a new offer on its Slate from Chase card: for a limited-time, you’ll get a 0% intro APR for up to 12 months with no balance transfer fees during the first 30 days your account is open. In addition, the card carries no annual fee.

While Slate from Chase doesn’t come with any rewards for spending, you wouldn’t want to make any purchases on it during the intro balance transfer period anyway. After you’ve taken advantage of the initial no fee balance transfer and the intro period is over, you can convert it to a rewards earning card such as the Chase Freedom.

PenFed Promise Card: 4.99% Balance Transfer for Life

BB&T Visa Platinum Credit Card: 0% on Balance Transfers for 6 Months, No Fees

BB&T is offering its Visa Platinum credit card with an intro 0% APR on both purchases and balance transfers for 6 months. Most importantly, there is no balance transfer fee if the transfer is initiated less than 90 days after the account has been opened. After that period, a 3% fee with a min of $10 and max of $99 will be charged.

There is an optional rewards program that the card may be enrolled in that costs $9/year (waived for the first year and for years in which net spending reaches at least $2400). You can receive 1,500 points after first purchase and redeem towards travel, merchandise and gift cards. Unfortunately, the redemption schedule is rather poor, as each point is worth less than one cent when redeemed towards gift cards. As a consequence, the best use of the card would be merely for its intro balance transfer offer.

Credit card companies are aggressively pursuing new customers once again, mailing out 29% more offers as compared to the first quarter a year ago. Are those offers on the whole as rewarding as we’ve seen in the past? Sadly, the answer is no. Still, many of them do represent an improvement over what we’ve been used to for the past year. In this post, I’ve compiled a list of recent Citi offers:

Up to 35,000 miles with AA credit card signup
Citi Dividend Platinum Select: 5% cash back on restaurants, hotels, and car rentals between July and September 2010. It sounds as though Citi may be joining Chase Freedom in copying Discover’s model of having rotating bonus categories. To earn the 5% cash back bonus, you’ll need to log into your account online and sign up for the promo.
Citi Platinum Select now offers a 0% intro APR for 18 months on balance transfers and a 0% intro APR for 12 months on purchases. There is a 5% uncapped balance transfer fee.
The Citi® Diamond Preferred® Rewards Card now offers a 0% intro APR for 12 months on purchases and balance transfers. Additionally, this card now has the added benefit of a $50 gift card bonus. Customers can redeem 6,000 bonus points after $300 in purchases within 3 months of account opening for their $50 gift card. For the first year, you’ll also earn 5 ThankYou points for every $1 spent at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations and 1 ThankYou point afterwards.
Citi has also been more active in offering long-term balance transfers to existing customers. Like the deals for new accounts, they have been coming with uncapped balance transfer fees of 3%.

BrightStar Credit Union Credit Card: 0% Balance Transfer for 6 Months, No Fees

Bright Star Credit Union offers a Cash Rewards Platinum Visa that features a 0% intro APR on balance transfers within 10 days of approval for the first 6 billing cycles of the account with no balance transfer fees or annual fees. In addition, the Cash Rewards credit card earns a 1.25% rebate on purchases, subject to a limit of $600 of rebates per calendar year.

Unfortunately, this deal is only available to those in South Florida, as you will need to visit a branch location in person. While you do not need to be a member to apply, you will need to become one to open your account. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Broward or Palm Beach Counties, Florida, and relatives of anyone who is eligible.

Bryant State Bank Credit Card: 3.25% on Balance Transfers for 6 Months, No BT Fee

The Bryant State Bank MasterCard offers an introductory 3.25% APR on balance transfers for 6 months with no balance transfer fees; after the intro period expires, the everyday interest rate is a relatively reasonable 11.25%. Some quick simple math shows that the 3.25% intro BT for 6 months with no fees is a better deal than, say, a 0% BT for 6 months with a 3% uncapped fee.

This is not a rewards card, and it does carry a $20 annual fee. However, one other “feature” that may make this card more attractive to some is that the issuer claims only a “fair” credit score is required for acceptance.

Frontier World MasterCard: Up to 40,000 Miles with Signup

There’s a few days left on this special deal for the Frontier World MasterCard with Annual Fee. Until November 15, 2009, when you open a new account and pay your annual fee of $49, you’ll receive 20,000 bonus miles. If you spend at least $750 by February 28, 2010, you’ll receive another 20,000 for a total of 40,000 bonus miles, which is enough for 2 round-trip tickets.

In addition, there is an intro balance transfer offer of 0% for 6 months. If you initiate the transfer within the first 6 months of opening your account, there is a min fee of $5 and a max of $50. In addition, you can earn 1 bonus mile for each balance transfer dollar that posts in the first 30 days after your new account is opened up to a maximum of 10,000 miles.

Priceline.com and Barclays recently introduced the new Priceline Rewards Visa Card. Not surprisingly, it is most suitable for Priceline.com users, but it also carries an intro 0% balance transfer offer for 9 months (max fee of $50) that will appeal to a wider audience.

The card comes in two versions: one version carries an $29 annual fee while the other does not. The $29 annual fee card offers a $50 bonus after your initial purchase, while the no-fee card offers a $25 initial purchase bonus.

Features of the no-fee card include:

$25 or 2,500 bonus points awarded after your first card purchase
2 points per $1 used on all eligible priceline.com bookings (all Name Your Own Price® bookings and all published-price airline tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars and vacation package bookings)
1 point per $1 spent on all other card purchases
Up to 2,500 bonus points for balance transfers completed in the first 30 days (earn 1 point for every $1 transferred)

The optionsXpress Platinum Visa offers something that very few credit cards today do: a 0% balance transfer deal with a capped fee. More specifically, it offers an intro balance transfer promo of 0% for 12 months with a 3% balance transfer fee capped at $75. In addition, the card carries no annual fee and has a reward program.

optionsXpress.com is an online brokerage where you can trade options, futures and stocks. While an investment account is not necessary to obtain the credit card, you will not be able to redeem any rewards without one. Credit card holders will earn 1 point for every dollar spent and for every 1500 points accumulated, $15 can be deposited to your account, equivalent to a 1% rebate.

PenFed: 2.99% Balance Transfer for Life

PenFed is now offering a 2.99% balance transfer offer for life on its Visa Platinum Rewards card.

~~While no other concrete details have been mentioned, PenFed’s current balance transfer offer has a 2.5% fee with a min of $10 and a max of $100.~~

I was unable to independently confirm the offer, as the customer rep that I reached claimed that details aren’t available until the offer is actually valid, so this is something worth watching. I’ll update this post once more comes out.

Edit 4/1: This deal is confirmed, with the same balance transfer fee as before: 2.5% with a min of $10 and a max of $100. The 2.99% APR is valid for the life of your transferred balances when you transfer them to your Visa Platinum Rewards Card. See the offer here.
