Editor's Recommendations

When selecting a card, we prefer those that do not limit our rebate to a specific brand of gas. The majority of the brand-specific gas credit cards in fact do not issue rebates at all when used at a competing brand's gas station.

With that in mind, a few cards do stand out:

Get 3% cash back at supermarkets, 2% cash back at gas stations and department stores, and 1% cash back on all other purchases
10% rebate when you use the card for gasoline at BP gas stations and Amoco gas stations for the first 2 billing cycles, then 5% cash back on these purchases, plus a 2% rebate on dining, airline, auto rental and lodging purchases, and 1% on any other purchases.
Earn 5% cash back at supermarkets, drugstores, gas stations, convenience stores and utilities including cable for 6 months, and 2% thereafter. 1% cash back on all other purchases and eligible cash advances
Purchases at drugstores and supermarkets during first 12 months also earn 6%, 3% thereafter, 1% on all other purchases and $1 for every 100 miles you drive - up to $1,000 every 12 months.
Earn (a) 4% cash back (equal to 4 points) for each one dollar in Qualifying Clark or Qualifying Crown Transactions posted to your Account, up to a maximum of 5,000 points (worth $50.00 in rewards), in any one Billing Cycle (once 5,000 points are earned during a Billing Cycle, no additional points for Qualifying Clark or Qualifying Crown Transactions can be earned during that Billing Cycle); and (b) 1% cash back (equal to 1 point) for each one dollar in Qualifying Credit Card Transactions (other than Qualifying Clark or Qualifying Crown Transactions) posted to your Account.
Earn 2% at restaurants, 2% for travel, and 1% everywhere else, including Costco

Earn 5% Cashback Bonus on up to $1,200 in gas and auto maintenance purchases (G&A Purchases) each year.

Effective October 1, 2007, you will earn 5% Cashback Bonus on your first $100 in these purchases each month - up to $1,200 each year; G&A Purchases in excess of $100 each month will still earn unlimited Cashback Bonus at the same rate as other purchases

For non-G&A purchases:
Total YTD Purchases (including G&A) Rebate
$0-$1,500 0.25%
$1500.01-$3,000 0.50%
$3000+ 1.0%
Rebates will be earned at a rate of 3% for all purchases made at participating Gulf locations and 1% on all other purchases made anywhere else (excluding purchases made at any merchant that sells gasoline other than Gulf branded gasoline) provided the account is open and current at the time of purchase.
Annual spend for non-Phillips 66, Conoco or 76 totaling less than $5,000 will earn a 0.5% rebate; over $5,000 earns 1%
2% rebate on groceries, dining and travel; 1% rebate on all other eligible purchases
No annual fee for the first year. And no fee after that provided you make 9 or more Shell gasoline purchases with the card in the prior year.*
Earn 2% cash back on supermarket purchases and 1% cash back on everything else.
Also earn 2% for restaurants, 2% for travel, and 1% virtually everywhere else.
